Our story
Kalba Kartu was founded in October 2025 by Andrew Skrypnyk (a Ukrainian who has been living in Lithuania since 2017) and Barbora Sharrock (a returnee diaspora Lithuanian from New Zealand). The initiative grew from their own desire to learn Lithuanian and the lack of accessible options for migrants. Starting with small gatherings at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library, the community moved to MiCenter, then expanded to Caritas and Adomas Mickevičius Library. Today the community continues to grow, bringing together people from all backgrounds who share a love for the Lithuanian language and culture.
Our mission is to make practising Lithuanian free, friendly and open to everyone in Vilnius — especially newcomers and migrants finding their feet here.
We’re entirely volunteer-run and we are not a course. There are no fees, and we aren’t funded by any programme or grant — everything is powered by volunteers giving their time. If you’d like to support us, the best way is to join in and help.
